           Some other day you find yourself trapped in the bad habits and you decide to change everything into the good. You make a long list of the behaviours and habits to be changed. You make a great plan for that and with charged positivity and hope you start executing the plan. You start feeling awesome. 

     A few days later you notice that nothing is happening according the plan. You start finding reasons justifying your helplessness in being inactive. Some other day you find yourself at the same place where you had started, don't you? Of course, it happens to you. There might be many reasons but the root cause of keeping yourself away from the transformed one is WILL POWER.

       Will power is really a super power that can change you from nothing to everything. It makes difference. It is what makes you get out of the bed and chase your dreams everyday. It makes you to dive into the deep sea and fly to the Mars. It is an open secret behind becoming successful in life. It keeps you walking on the chosen roads no matter how difficult they are as well holds you back from distracting yourself and increases your productivity.

WHAT'S WILLPOWER ?

      Let's understand the willpower which helps you to be more self disciplined and self controlled. The American Psychology Association has put it in a very nice way , defining that

       “Willpower is the ability to resist short-term temptations in order to meet long-term goals.”

         How easy to understand but difficult to inculcate. It is really a challenging task to exchange the things which have been giving you instant happiness long time for seeking pleasure in the future. It gives you pain but you prefer to bear it for better tomorrow.

      When you are habitual of sleeping for hours and getting up late which gives you happiness and now you have to get up early to go to the gym for becoming healthier. How difficult it is to resist the temptation of lying in the bed and getting up. It is only the willpower can make this difference. 

          Willpower is like a muscle. It can be strengthen with the mental exercises. It is the inner strength helps you to control yourself from diving into the drench of the instant gratification and pushes you to lead on the path of the success despite having lot of challenges and hurdles. With this superpower you can easily overcome the obstacles.

  KEYS TO ACCESS WILLPOWER

BE AWARE ABOUT THE RESULTS OF THE BAD HABITS 

          You don't push yourself to change until you don't realize the loss you are facing due to the bad habits. As you become aware about the bad habits and their outcomes , you feel urge to get rid off them for your betterment and this urge boosts your willpower. Better you do introspection and contemplate about the changes you need to make strongly. This dying for the change need will create strong willpower inside you.

BE CLEAR WITH YOUR OUTCOMES

          You quit making changes, when you don't have a clear picture of the outcomes you will have after making a change. You have to be clear with your outcomes. For instance, when you know that getting up early in the morning and hitting the ground will make you strong, fit and healthy, you don't wait for others to get you up instead you  do it willingly. A clear vision of the outcomes motivates your willpower.

CHOOSE ONE TASK AT ONE TIME

         Change is easy when you go for a one change at a one time. If you decide to bring a change in multiple things, you will face a lot of difficulty and this will end in quitting the process. Make a list of the behaviours or habits you want to change or upgrade. Priorities them according to your needs and start working on them one by one. Focusing on a single change creates less conflict in your mind. You get limited tasks to do that you can do easily.

 MAINTAIN PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ENERGY AT ITS BEST

      Willpower needs physical and mental energy. Physically tired and mentally sick person can not have a strong willpower. You need a proper sleep, healthy food and calm mind for gaining and maintaining the energy level. Meditation and creative visualisation of the outcomes give you mental energy whereas sound sleep, exercise and nutritious diet give you physical energy. 

KEEP PATIENCE

      'Rome wasn't built in a day' is a saying teaches us to keep patience. Change is surely possible, but you need to wait for that awesome moment. Have you ever seen any big thing is built in a short time? No, it is not possible. It takes time to build something great. As you are on the journey of the transformation, it is long. You will not reach to the destination immediately but definitely. You need patience. This attitude will keep your willpower on the track. It will strengthen your willpower. 

CELEBRATE SMALL CHANGES

      It is only you who is aware about the small changes that take place in your life. As you notice such small changes, don't feel shy to celebrate them by giving yourself rewards. It could be anything. It would be a little voice saying bravo! or a small treat offered to the self. This develops your confidence.

           At the end , understand 'The Marshmallow Experiment' which was conducted by psychologist Walter Mischel, a professor at Stanford University to check a role of the willpower in life. It was for measuring the ability of delaying the gratification. In this experiment children were given the Marshmallow with the choice of eating then or waiting for a while for getting two marshmallows each one. Some failed to wait and they became the victims of the instant gratification but a few passed with strong willpower and got two marshmallows. Later on in the future in their adulthood , children with strong willpower found successful in their personal, professional, financial and social life.

    It is true that with a strong willpower power you can easily overcome the short term temptations and  achieve great things in long term.

 PRACTICING POSITIVITY


         It is said that practice makes man perfect. Yes, what you practice, you become good at it. You definitely have achieved such perfection in something like typing on laptop, driving a car, making food, playing any game, speaking any language etc. You are expert in such activities as you always do them. You practice it. It is really good to be good in something. It reduces our efforts and makes our life easy and comfortable. I wish you to keep on doing such things but wait , are you only practicing such good things or good for nothing things too?. I have something to ask you.

        Do you always get angry? 

       Do you always feel stressed and frustrated?

       Do you always find yourself complaining about something and blaming others?

      Do you always feel low and negative?

     Do you get upset with other's ill opinions about you?

       Answers are as clear as the blue sky. you always have such negative thoughts and feelings and it happens to you because you practice them everyday.

   You get angry with a very insignificant incidents and once you get angry , you can't control it because you are practicing anger everyday. You are finding a fault in everything that other can't see as you are practicing complaining. You think ' I can't'  or 'it won't work' befor diving into the task because you practice self doubt and negative thinking.

If nothing is satisfying you, you are practicing being unsatisfied. If nothing brings you happiness, you are practicing sadness. You are unable to find peace even changing the people around you and places because you are practicing being not in peace.   Some other day when you realise something is bothering you and you need a change and you can make this change still you loose the hope and accept your defeat You get adjusted with such lifeless conditions  because you are practicing being pessimistic and helpless looser. Nowadays you are so good at negative thoughts and negative feelings since you practice them without a break.

     Knowingly or unknowingly you have adapted yourself to this negative practices. This negativity is killing your life. It is stopping you from doing, having and becoming what you are really born to.

           You already have all the resources which make you eligible for living a life full of peace love and happiness. To make it happen, you just need to practice peace, love and happiness. You should practice positive thoughts and emotions.

       A study conducted by Barbara Fredrickson, a positive psychology researcher at the University of North Carolina, indicated that people should cultivate positive emotions and thoughts in their own lives and in the lives of those around them; not just because doing so makes them feel good in the moment, but also because doing so transforms people for the better and sets them on paths toward flourishing and healthy longevity. 

      Let's see some benefits of practicing positivity.

      Practicing positivity  doesn't mean that you ignore the painful situations in your life but you respond and deal with the situation in a different way that it reduces the pain and let you feel more comfortable and pleasant. Here are five sure ways to help you practice positivity.


1. Develop self awareness -

      Most of the reactions given to the challenges are the product of your unconscious patterns. We can't read them easily. It needs awareness towards your thoughts and behaviour. As you get stuck with the unpleasant conditions and feeling negative, become aware about the emotions and thoughts. This is the first step towards inculcating habit of practicing positivity.


2. Manage your self talk-

       Self talk is at the root of your thought chain. You practice negative thoughts and emotions in the form of self talk. When you are giving negative remarks about the situation and criticizing yourself in your self talk, you started loosing the control over the event. Positive self talk will boost the positive thoughts and emotions. Turn your can't into can and won't into will. Remove toxic and disempowering words from your self talk dictionary and fill it with powerful words. 


3. Surround yourself with positive people

       A motivational speaker Jim Rhon says, you are the average of five people you spend most of your time. Emotions are contagious. Being in a company of positive people will make you positive. You can't change the people around you but you can change the people around you. Choose your company wisely. People around you leave greater impact on your thoughts and behaviour.


4. Gratitude

       Being grateful for having good things in your life and expressing gratitude towards them make your pleasant and positive. It helps you to focus on the present moment. You can't be grateful and negative at the same time,so it creates only positive thoughts and emotions. This will give you the power to get out of the unpleasant conditions.


5. Meditation

        It is the surest way to bring ultimate peace to your mind. Doing mediation is equal to practicing being in the present moment with peace and happiness. It cultivates your mind for your overall well-being.


    Practicing positive thoughts and emotions everyday produce positive actions which bring you positive outcomes making your life positive, pleasant and  peaceful.
