Do
you want to succeed in every area of your life? Of course, you do want. I know
it. As we all know, success comes only to those who act on everything that they
need to do to be successful.
Is it possible to be successful by performing
essential activities weekly, monthly and yearly or when you feel to do?
Or
Do you have to perform essential activities every
day? Yes, that's true. It is everyday action whether small or big, brings massive
change into your life. Repeatedly performed activities build a huge mountain of
success and habit of doing wanted things repeatedly is known as habit of being
consistent. Yes, it is a power of consistency makes you successful in every
area of your life. It may be your personal or professional life.
One of my
friends who has a master’s degree and working in a well-known industry met me
last week. He was telling me about his new goals. Suddenly I realized that they
were the same goals he had been talking about for last four years. There are
many people decide so many things but leave them incomplete. You might be one
of them. You are enough capable to achieve your goals but it is lack of
consistency kills your dream of achieving something in your life. People with
inconsistent efforts have nothing to achieve. They are unaware of this
attribution.
Consistency
is nothing but repeating the same behavior (in tough times too) until you
succeed in your goals. It doesn't matter whether you like to act or you don't,
it is enough only to understand its importance in being successful. You don't
see the drastic change instantly that may make you overwhelming sometimes, yet
you believe in it and keep on doing. Consistency is what makes you different from
mediocre people around you. This one quality can bring a massive change in your
personal or professional life.
Great men and
women from any field of the society had not become great without this virtue.
Consistency creates your identity. If you think about a writer, his identity as
a writer is due to his consistency in writing. Cricketer's identity as a
cricketer is due to his consistency in practicing and playing cricket. Singer's
identity as a singer is due to his /her practice of singing.
If you want to make a shift in your
identity you need to be consistent in performing the activities which will
create your new identity. Whatever you want to be can be easily achieved
through the power of the consistency.
Consistency is
a foundation for building powerful habits and even forming your beliefs too.
These beliefs further lead major role in your thinking and behavioral patterns
which make you successful. Do you want to be consistent? Here are five ways for
building powerful & profound consistency...
1. HAVE A SPECIFIC AND TIME BOUND GOAL
Consistency can
be developed by doing something and you need a valid reason to do something.
This reason is called as a goal. Without specific goal you can't provoke
yourself to act. Goal gives you exact idea of what you should act on. Aimless activities
bring nothing fruitful. You don't see any changes. You get bored of doing the
same and you quit.
When you
have a specific goal, you get clarity in choosing essential activities to act
on whereas deadlines energize you to run after completing the tasks in time.
2. FOCUS ON THE PROCESS
Achieving
any goal needs a proper procedure. It has a process but people tend to get end
results instantly. They can't wait for the outcome. They keep their eyes only
on the outcome. It is not bad to do so but they ignore the process. The real
reason to get succeed is a process. Focusing on the end result can make you
feel tired and overwhelmed but focusing on the process makes you delight to see
changes occurred in yourself due to the consistent activities. It motivates you
to go on.
3. LOVE IT TO MAKE IT
The reason
behind acting on any task is that you love it. You don't consider and care for
any obstacle when you love to do something. Develop love towards chosen activities.
Find reasons to love it. Connect these activities to your interests and strengths.
Think about the benefits you will have by working on these activities.
4. SENSE THE SMALL CHANGES
It is not possible to develop the habit of being consistence in a single day. It takes time. It is like sowing a seed and waiting for the sprout and letting it to develop into the plant and the tree. Every action brings the outcome whether it is positive or negative. When you keep on doing something, definitely you will find some changes but you need to sense these changes. If you fail to sense these positive small changes, you may give up on doing. Once you identify the positive changes you realize the power of those small doings and your mind itself pushes you to keep on going.
5. ELIMINATE THE DISRACTIONS AND TEMPTATIONS
You always
find many distractions and temptations on the road to the success. It is our
brain easily victimizes to such temptations as it doesn’t want to face any
struggle. Our brain works on the pain and pleasure principle. It always bends
towards pleasure without considering its disadvantages. You must keep yourself
away from such pleasurable activities which bring you pain in further life.
Before going on for the essential activities,
think about the probable distractions and temptations. Make a list of those, at
the same time think about the counter activities you need to do to get rid of
such unwanted hurdles.
Keeping consistency
in acting on the decided to do things makes you successful in every area of
your life. Think of consistency, think of success.
( It is my 51st blog. This is what I have achieved due to the consistency that I have shown in writing. When I had begun the journey of writing I wasn't aware that I could complete half century of the blogs, but I did it. this is the fine example of the power of consistency.)
