you can perpetually have in your life. This is a common trait you will find in
all great people in the world. It is a secret behind every successful story.
Whether you are a student, a teacher, a
manager, a businessman, or an entrepreneur, you need the confidence to get done
everything in your respective professional, social or personal life.
What Is Confidence?
Confidence is a feeling of belief and trust in your abilities and
skills that cause you to accomplish the task. It is a positive sense of having
the specific strengths to control challenging situations effectively. You feel
sure about your competencies. It is a motivating energy flow that makes you
ready for life's experiences. Your mind and gut get ready to act on the spoken
words.
A realistic approach toward your
abilities makes you balanced for possessing healthy confidence. When you are
doubtful about your abilities either you have a little confidence or too much
confidence. In such scenarios, you can be underconfident or overconfident. Underconfidence
prevents you from taking risks and blocks your opportunities whereas
overconfidence gives you an unrealistic feeling of superiority and arrogance.
Confidence brings a personal sense of
being capable and competent. It creates stronger self-realization of your
capabilities. It gives you a sense of having enough strengths.
“With
the realization of one’s potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one
can build a better world.”
- Dalai Lama
Importance Of Being
Confident
The
great story of an American sprinter Wilma Rudolph can make you realize how
important to have confidence in your life.
A premature child born in 1940, she suffered
from polio at age 4. The doctor said that she would never walk again in her
life. She tried to walk with the braces on her legs for years. She didn't stop
and started participating in competitions. With her remarkable confidence, she
could make her way to the Olympics and became the first American woman to win
three track and field gold medals in Olympics in a single Olympics.
She fought against all the odds in her life
and made her dream a reality. She could make it due to her belief in herself
that she could do it. Her confidence brought the best out of her and became the
live example of a winning spirit for the entire humanity.
You
will find thousands of people around you who have achieved unimaginable things
in their life with self-confidence. You require confidence, whether you are at
the peak of success or struggling for the bread and butter. It has the power of
turning nothing into everything. It can fetch you victory from defeat. You can
create a world out of zero with confidence
“It
is confidence in our bodies, minds, and spirits that allows us to keep looking
for new adventures.”
-Oprah Winfrey
How To Be More Confident
Being confident is fascinating and
admirable. A person with a lot of confidence gets respect and attention. He
influences others. He makes his place in the crowd. Confidence is a virtue.
Though it seems to be difficult to instill
this attribute, the good news is that it can be developed with the proper
direction and efforts. Do you want to be more confident? Here are 10 ways to
get significant and remarkable confidence.
1.
Think about your past achievements
Look
at your past and count your achievements. You must have so many achievements
and good days in your past life. Make a list of all the achievements that have
made you feel proud from your childhood to the present time. Remembering those
glorious moments creates energy and positivity in your mind in the present. It helps
you to regain that confidence.
2. Focus on your strengths
You already have a lot of good things in you. Whenever you face
difficulties or challenges you think about your weaknesses and feel helpless
but when you focus on strengths, you start feeling positive and confident. To realize
these strengths just think about the bad days and think about what helped you to
come out of those days. Again, make a list of strengths you possess and think
how can you use those to make a difference.
3. Get proper knowledge
Knowledge is a superpower. Most of
the time you feel a lack of confidence when you don’t have a proper and enough
knowledge of the field that you are dealing with. If you don’t prepare yourself
with proper input, you may lose confidence. Proper preparation prevents poor
performance. Learning, revising, practicing, and implementing will make you knowledgeable
and confident.
4. Manage positive self-talk
What happens to you when you come
across a difficult task or never before done task, you start doubting yourself.
Being doubtful about your abilities makes you think negatively about yourself. Thinking
negatively about own self is nothing but negative self-talk.
You talk to yourself more than
anybody else. Your self-talk reflects in your behavior. You can’t be positive
if you are telling yourself that you can’t do it. You must speak yourself
positively. You should use such motivating and inspiring words to make you feel
confident.
5. Don’t compare yourself with others
Comparing yourself with others is nothing but you
are insulting yourself. If you are comparing yourself with those who are
excellent to you will make you inferior and that will result in losing confidence.
See you are not less or more than anyone else. You are unique. You have your way
of thinking. You have your approach toward life and your ways of handling the
situation. You are not ahead of anyone or behind anyone. You are at the right
place of your own. Don’t compare yourself with others but compare yourself with
yourself. Comparing with your performances will boost your confidence as you
will realize your improvement.
6. Have a company of motivators
You are an average of five people
you hang around with. You feel confident when you are with the people who
motivate you. Encourage and offer help to you to excel in your life.
Think about the people around you
right now and find how many of them motivate you to face the challenges in your
life. You should be surrounded by energy providers. Only confident people can
make you confident. Find such confident people and get in touch with them always.
7. Focus on your body movements
Amy Cuddy's wildly popular Ted Talk from 2012 explained the way your posture
affects how you feel, using "power poses" as a tip to increase
self-confidence. Slouching and bending your head make you feel low confident
whereas sitting or standing straight up and holding your head high makes you
confident. Sometimes energy flows from the body to the mind. Change in the way
you sit, stand, walk and talk brings a change in your state of the mind.
Next time whenever you want to feel this positive
emotion of confidence make a slight change in your posture and gesture. You will
find yourself full of confidence.
8. Practice positive affirmations
Affirmations are well-prepared
instructions. These are prepared according to your need. When you want to feel
more confident give yourself positive instructions like ‘day by day I am
feeling confident, I am full of confidence, etc. Instructions should be mingled
with the emotion of confidence.
9. Learn to handle the criticism
You will find yourself surrounded
yourself by a lot of discouraging and criticizing people. People don’t miss a
single chance of talking bad about you. They will demotivate you. They will
point out your mistakes. To stay firm and to feel confident against such
criticism you need to learn to handle the criticism.
Ignoring such critics is the best way
to reply to them. Doing the best using your abilities can be the answer to
their criticism.
10. Set
goals
Goals motivate you to act as well as make you realize your abilities.
You feel confident when you act on your goals and achieve many of them. Goals are
magnets they fetch you towards them. They provoke you to take action.
A sense of achievement brings you peace
of mind and satisfaction. These positive feelings boost your confidence.
To
be confident you must do whatever makes you feel low confident.
